The Redcaps - Original drawing $2,500
This gorgeous original artwork featuring a pair of red-capped parrots on my garden pergola will bring colour to any home.
The red-capped parrot (Purpureicephalus spurius) is a striking bird native to the southwestern corner of Western Australia. Known for their vibrant crimson crown, green-yellow cheeks, and purple-blue underparts, they're a unique member of its genus.
Although they're usually found in woodlands and open savanna, where they primarily feed on seeds, we have a family of them visiting our garden regularly. These two were waiting patiently for some sunflower seeds in our bird feeder.
I enjoyed exploring the colour range in these birds in coloured pencil.
The original artwork took over 60 hours to complete and is hand drawn in lightfast coloured pencils (Faber Castell Polychromos) on artist quality paper (Strathmore 300 Bristol) so it will last a lifetime. The background is airbrushed with acrylic paint to create a soft, yet realistic backdrop to make the birds pop.
