This delightful original artwork showcases a pair of cheeky green budgerigars (Melopsittacus undulatus) proudly protecting their cozy nest.

Found across Australia's open woodlands and grasslands, these vibrant parrots are a symbol of resilience and community. Their striking emerald-green plumage is accented by playful black markings on their wings and a touch of sunny yellow on their faces, giving them a naturally cheerful look.

Fascinated by their social interactions, I aimed to capture their lively and protective personalities through their mischievous expressions. Using colored pencils, I explored the varied shades of green and the delicate texture of their feathers, blending these with soft acrylic airbrushed backgrounds to emphasize their dynamic presence. Creating this piece was a joyful experience, celebrating the charm and character of these quintessentially Australian birds.

The original artwork took over 90 hours to complete and is hand drawn in lightfast coloured pencils (Faber Castell Polychromos) on artist quality paper (Strathmore 300 Bristol) so it will last a lifetime.
