This gorgeous original artwork featuring a pair of laughing kookaburras will bring love and warmth to any home.

Laughing Kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), from the kingfisher family, are native to and commonly found throughout Australia. Known for their iconic laughing type call across the treetops, when one starts, it's not long before others join in the hilarity; it's contagious!

I was fascinated to learn that the larger bird is the female, and the smaller one in front is the male. I fell in love with them as I drew. It was fun to explore the structure of the birds and their feathers, and to render the whorls, bark and knots of the tree branch in coloured pencil.

The original artwork took over 116 hours to complete and is hand drawn in lightfast coloured pencils (Faber Castell Polychromos) on artist quality paper (Strathmore 300 Bristol) so it will last a lifetime.
